2008 Mid-Winter Conference
becomes 2008 Growth Summit
The 2008 Mid-Winter Conference will be something different…
it has become the 2008 Growth Summit
and Increasing Service Through Growth will be the main theme!
Yes, you can expect something different in Montgomery on February 8th and 9th, 2008! It will begin Friday morning when special teams of Kiwanis leaders from throughout the district will meet to develop plans for helping local clubs build their membership, for coordinated membership recruitment at the division level and for a district wide growth strategy. Leadership development will be a part of the day also.
2008-09 club presidents and secretaries will have the opportunity Friday afternoon to get an early jump start on next year by attending the Club Leadership Education (CLE) course starting at 12:30 pm. The course has been streamlined to 4 hours and will conclude at 4:30 pm. You may use the conference registration form to sign up for this event. Those not attending will be expected to attend a course on a Saturday in May and June, so take advantage of this special opportunity if you are next year’s president or secretary!
The Friday night dinner will be one of fellowship and recognition of individual and club achievement in 2006-007. Distinguished clubs and members will be announced as well as other special district awards.
The main events of the week-end will begin Saturday morning. There will be the usual meetings at 7:30 am for past governors, lieutenant governors and persons interested in RIF. The opening session will be much briefer than usual and will begin at 8:30 am. After that, special Kiwanis International staff will present a new program on membership growth and how we can achieve even greater service through growth. All persons attending the mid winter event will remain in the same session, and all clubs are encouraged to bring an interclub sized delegation so you can develop a plan for your own club together and leave Montgomery ready and able to see your club take off to new heights!
Even the interclub luncheon will have a new twist. We will return to letting each club announce their attendance, but then something new has been added. Clubs are asked to bring money…BIG MONEY…and present checks for their annual club giving to the Kiwanis International Foundation and the District Foundation. They may announce the total gift and present it at the luncheon. Warning, though, bragging beyond this might lead to a fine of an even larger check to the foundations.
The registration form for all of this is on the web site (Alabama.kiwanis.org), and time is very short. This is the earliest our conference has ever been, and rooms at the Embassy Suites will only be held in our block until January 9th. Act now! Mention KIA code when contacting Embassy Suites for your room. We hope to have a big crowd, so sign up now.
